3–5, rue Zebdi, Rabat, Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaër, Morocco
This 17th-century traditional medina house is built around a courtyard, with a fantastic terrace and views of Rabat’s rooftops, making it one of the most beautiful riads in town. Rooms and suites are decorated with opulent Moroccan character, traditional features, and accentuated motifs. There are tadelakt walls, heavy carved furniture, swaths of rich fabrics, and splendid wrought-iron fittings. The whole riad was decorated by interior designer Pascale Amzallag, renowned for her use of local motifs, fabrics, and materials while employing local artisans to create exquisite fittings and furnishings. The result is a clever balance, blending Moorish-Arabesque style with Pascale’s penchant for all that is clean, light, and unsmothering. The terrace is a great place to kick back; there’s also a small plunge pool for hot days.
