The region has a temperate, coastal climate throughout the year, though the bone-chilling winter weather can catch unprepared tourists off guard. Inland, the Rif Mountains see rain in winter and spring, and the high peaks are often snowcapped through April. Springtime, particularly the month of May, is the region's finest season, with hundreds of varieties of wildflowers in full bloom. Though swimming weather by most standards starts in June, the traditional high season is from late July to the end of August. During this time prices are higher, rooms hard to find, beaches very busy, roads crowded, and the sun intense.
