What to Wear
As weather in this region can be unpredictable, it's best to bring layers. Having a wool sweater or fleece pullover is a necessity, as it can get quite frigid at night. Solid footwear, such as boots or sneakers, is important. Sandals are socially acceptable and a sturdy, sensible pair can be useful for strolls, although not for demanding hikes. Both women and men should dress conservatively. Women will be better received by locals if they wear longish sleeves, avoiding short skirts and short shorts. Both genders should be aware that pants are more practical when mule riding, unless you are accomplished at riding sidesaddle.
