When to Go to The High Atlas

For some the High Atlas is at its best in April, when the trees are flowering and the mountains are still cloaked in white. High-country hiking is safest and easiest in late summer. Winter can be cold but very peaceful, and on sunny days the lower passes just south and north of Imlil and the area around the Agoundis can make for pleasant day hikes. The high passes should be attempted in winter only by serious alpinists with serious gear, and even in summer the higher peaks are worthy of respect.
