Riad Cascades d'Ouzoud Review

After the hair-raising, hairpin bends leading up to the Cascades, you may find it hard to leave this stylish yet unspoiled riad. Stretching out on the carpeted cushions of the panoramic roof terrace, you will appreciate just how much the French owner, Patrick, loves this place and why. The former architect, who has worked the world over (from Madagascar to New York), first fell in love with Ouzoud 40 years ago. In 1999, he took a crumbling, traditional family home and made it a haven, one full of beautifully worked spaces, materials, and colors. The decor is a cunning blend of innovative and honest, with many fine pieces (such as the ornate craved doors) salvaged from the scrapyards of Marrakesh. Don't come here for high luxury; come here to breathe the fresh air and eat a delicious meal (the tagines are remarkable) and rest in a welcoming, yet simple, room. Demi-pension is required. In winter you may request to have a fire in your room; in summer the riad structure keeps the rooms cool.
