Imlil
The village of Imlil is the preeminent jumping-off point for the high country, a quiet mountain retreat whose existence has been given over to preparing walkers for various climbs around the peaks. It's filled with guides, cheap rooms, and equipment-rental shops. Imlil is a long strip of a village, built up around the main road. The main square is a parking area on the left, often crammed with the camper vans and cars of trek-minded travelers. Simple terraced cafés teem with accompagnateurs (guides), people offering you lodging in their homes, and mule owners renting the services of these essential means of mountain transport. Storms may occasionally make the road into town impassable, something to consider if you're heading up in rough weather.
