Fez is a great religious and cultural center. In many respects, it's a window on the past. Indeed, as you enter the old quarter of Fez el Bali, only the occasional television antenna reminds you that you're entering the third, not the second, millennium AD. This honeycomb of 9th-century alleys and passageways is the perfect medieval labyrinth, and exploring it is a real adventure.
