This 14th-century fondouk is without a doubt the medina's most modern restored monument. The three-story patio displays Morocco's various native woods, some forestry-management schemes, 18th- and 19th-century woodworking tools, and a series of antique wooden doors and pieces of furniture. The rooftop tearoom has panoramic views over the medina. Don't miss the former jail cell on the ground floor, or the large scales—a reminder of the building's original functions, commerce on the patio floor and lodging on the three levels above. For the traveler, one of the museum's best features may be its palatial, cedar-ceiling public bathrooms, certainly the finest of their kind in Fez.
