Hotels in Fez range from the luxurious and the comprehensively comfortable, such as the Palais Jamaï, the Mérinides, and the Jnan Palace, to more friendly but fallible choices like the Zalagh. Meknes hotels generally start at the latter level and ascend from there. In Fez, hotels nearest Fez el Bali are best, as the medina is almost exclusively what you have come to see. In Meknes the "Transat" (Hôtel Transatlantique) is the best combination of old-world digs overlooking the Imperial City's walls. The Hôtel Rif is a second, more modern option.
