When to Go

The best times to go to Morocco are spring and fall, specifically March, April, and October. Spring may be ideal—the sky is a beautiful deep blue, washed clear by the winter rain, and wildflowers blanket the landscape. Winter is the best time to see the desert and most of the south; summer is the best time to explore the High Atlas. If you like a hot sun, come in July, August, or early September. The months between late September and December are pleasant, with cool evenings. January, February, and March are changeable and can sometimes be chilly or rainy.

The Atlantic and Mediterranean coastal resorts are crowded during summer school vacation. It's best to see the coast another time; June is still warm, and the beaches are much less crowded.

Non-Muslim travelers will probably want to avoid coming to Morocco during Ramadan. During this monthlong fast, all cafés and nearly all restaurants are closed during the day, and the pace of work is reduced. Ramadan starts in mid-September in 2007, early September in 2008, and late August in 2009. Ramadan lasts for 29 or 30 days.
