Nairobi
Money
Only change money at banks, Bureaux de Change, or authorized hotels. Don't be tempted to change money on the street, however good a deal you are being offered. There are ATMs at most banks throughout the country and credit cards are accepted mostly everywhere (not in the markets or small shops). Visa, MasterCard, Plus, and Cirrus cards are universally accepted, but not always American Express and Diners Club. Most guides are more than happy to accept US$ as tips. If you're bringing dollars with you, bring only notes printed after 1995, and avoid torn or very dirty ones. It's a good idea to have a small stash of lower denomination dollars. Travelers' checks are widely accepted.
