This is Old Jaffa's central plaza, filled with archaeological remains, restaurants, expensive gift and souvenir shops, and galleries. The artists who live here complain that there's too much noise on summer nights, and some visitors say it's too touristy. But beyond the square, Old Jaffa is indisputably charming and should not be missed. A labyrinthine network of tiny alleys snakes in all directions from Kedumim Square down to the fishing port; a good selection of galleries and jewelry stores can be found along Mazal Dagim Street and its offshoots, south of the square. The focus of Kedumim Square is an archaeological site that exposes 3rd-century BC catacombs; the site has been converted into an underground visitor center with large, vivid, illustrated descriptions of Jaffa's history. Admission is free.
