Set to reopen in 2009 in time for the city's centennial, Bialik House is the charmingly restored two-story home of Chaim Nachman Bialik (1873-1934), who is considered the father of Hebrew poetry. Bialik was already a respected poet and publisher by the time he moved to Tel Aviv from Russia in 1924; in the remaining 10 years of his life, his house, built in 1927, became the intellectual center of Tel Aviv. The house is still a cultural center, hosting evenings of readings and lectures by writers and artists, and it houses an archive of Bialik's work. In honor of the Centenary, a special exhibit entitled "100 Years of Tel Aviv-Yafo Art" is slated to open in June 2009, showcasing the city's famous artistic sons, including Menashe Kadishman amd Igael Tumarkin.
