Hotel Cinema began life in the 1930s as the Esther Cinema, one of the first movie theaters in Tel Aviv. Skip the elevator and take the original, elegant winding staircase from the lobby to the various floors at least once: when restoring it, the architect left the depressions made by thousands of movie-goers over the decades. Vintage projection equipment, tickets, showbills, and other paraphernalia give the feel of a truly charming museum, while the comfortable guest rooms also recall the movies, with black decor and reading lamps that look like tiny stage spotlights. The hotel has designated business floors and a sunroof terrace with a wonderful view of Dizengoff Circle. Pros: theme hotel with a sense of history and style; complimentary afternoon coffee hour on the roof. Cons: Dizengoff Circle location not considered a main tourist area.
