Rabin Square

  • Address: Ibn Gvirol St., Center City, Tel Aviv

Fodor's Review:

The square fronting the nondescript Tel Aviv municipality building was renamed for prime minister Yitzhak Rabin after he was assassinated here on November 4, 1995. Passersby often stop at the small monument of black stones, rippled and uneven as if after an earthquake, the work of Israeli artist Danny Karavan. On April 4, 2009, it is set to be the scene of the kickoff for the Tel Aviv Centenary with a huge audiovisual display projected against the surrounding apartment houses, and a concert by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. In September 2009, another Centenary event will be celebrated here: The Centennial Flower Carpet—where a carpet made entirely of flowers will be spread over nearly one square mile and will reveal a "secret message."
