This area has been more successful than many other Tel Aviv neighborhoods in maintaining its charming older buildings. Bialik has long been a popular address with many of the city's artists and literati, so it's not surprising that some of the houses have been converted into small museums. Next to the Bialik House is a mosaic, designed by artist Nahum Gutman, which depicts the history of the city from the ancient days of Jaffa to the rise of Tel Aviv. Gutman was among the elite group of Tel Aviv's first artists. The mosaic stands in front of Tel Aviv's original city hall, set to reopen in June 2009 as the city's historical museum in honor of the Tel Aviv centennial events.
