One of East Jerusalem's veteran hotels, the Ambassador has been transformed by thorough, tasteful renovations, and the use throughout of Jerusalem limestone. Rooms are airy and well appointed; for extra space, upgrade to a junior guest room, and ask for an Old City view. In fine weather, the somewhat eclectic Al-Diwan à la carte restaurant—Middle Eastern and Italian, mostly—expands to the patio and the Bedouin tent in the inviting garden. Pros: in-house patisserie; comfortable rooms. Cons: far from attractions and restaurants; staff lack warmth.
