The setting, opposite Mt. Herzl in West Jerusalem, has sweeping views of the Judean Hills, yet is only a 15-minute cab ride (there's a taxi stand next door) or a 25-minute bus ride from downtown. Upgraded from a youth hostel to a guesthouse, it offers two levels of accommodations. The new wing is essentially an economy hotel: 78 spacious, well-laid-out rooms (light wood furnishings; most with tubs, some shower only) that sleep four. The 53 older hostel rooms (some sleep six) are simpler, though still with carpets and en-suite bathrooms. Always ask for a view. Meals are substantial and cheap. Pros: free Internet access; good falafel stand nearby. Cons: remote location; sometimes noisy local groups.
