Stonework and arches at this hotel, just five minutes from Jaffa Gate and 10 minutes from downtown, make a powerful first impression. The lobby—a monument to the architect—is somewhat cold, though offset by the comfortable, bright lounge and terrace one floor above. Views of the Old City walls from many rooms and public areas remind you that this is more than a good business hotel. The aesthetics are carried over into the spacious guest rooms, with furnishings in soft tones of beige and cream, decorative old-style mosaic wall-pieces, and well-appointed bathrooms. The new Scala specialty restaurant may tempt guests to stay in for dinner. Pros: friendly staff; great location; year-round outdoor pool. Cons: feel of a large business hotel; events sometimes intrusive.

David Citadel has an unbeatable location and is a beautiful property, but it has serious flaws. First, the Internet service is horrible - you must purchase daily use cards at reception to use in your room, and if you're lucky, the internet will work in your room, albeit at very slow speeds. Even the hotel admitted the internet service is a problem. Second, the beautiful marble has a cost - the hotel is incredibly noisy, especially the rooms on the ground (3rd) floor. Refuse room 313 - it is above a very loud garage gate that sounds like a tank going by when it opens and closes at night - I had to move rooms it was so bad. The manager was sympathetic and service generally was good. However, in my opinion, this is not a 5 diamond hotel and is a terrible value.
