Timing and Precautions

Allow yourself enough time for an unhurried tour of, say, two hours, noting that the site is closed Friday afternoon and all Saturday. There is a minibus (fare NIS 5) to shuttle you up the steep hill from the exit to the Visitors Center. The site is in the heart of the predominantly Arab Silwan neighborhood, where friction between veteran Palestinians and newly ensconced Jewish settlers is not unknown. The layout of the site and the guards on duty dispel any security concerns, however.
