Tennis
Tennis has become increasingly popular in Israel. In addition to the courts below, a few major hotels have their own courts, but may restrict usage to guests or club members. Ask your concierge to make inquiries if you want to play at a particular hotel. At all venues, advance reservations are always required.
The Hebrew University at Mt. Scopus (1 Churchill St., Mt. Scopus. 02/588-2796 or 02/582-6960) has 10 lighted courts and rental equipment. Courts go for NIS 35 an hour in daylight and NIS 45 an hour in evenings, and are open Sunday 11 am-10 pm, Monday-Thursday 6:30 am-10 pm, Friday 7-4, and Saturday 8-4. You can rent a racket for NIS 20, and buy three balls for NIS 30. Call ahead to book, especially during campus recess.
The Israel Tennis Center (5 Almaliach St., Katamon Tet. 02/679-1866 or 02/679-2726) has 18 lighted courts, available for NIS 40 per hour, Sunday-Thursday, 7 am-3 pm; NIS 55 per hour Sunday-Thursday, 7 pm-10 pm, Friday 7 am-6 pm (Oct.-Mar. until 5 pm, and Saturday 8 am-noon. Equipment rental is sometimes available; call ahead.
