South Bat Shlomo

The oldest part of South Bat Shlomo has just one street; it's a charming stroll past small, square houses with red-tile roofs, the spaces between each of them leaving just enough room for a farmer's horse and wagon. The old synagogue is in the middle of the block. A few of the owners still cultivate the land and sell cheese, olive oil, and honey, much like their forebears. The short walk ends with a dramatic view of vineyards below and, opposite, the lushly forested hill of a nature reserve established by the British in 1941.
