Mother Nature reigns supreme at this garden-of-paradise resort, whose timeless, unsullied Nile vistas are 4 km (2½ mi) from Luxor's bustling center (there's free shuttle service). Occupying 60 acres on pastoral Kings Island, the Maritim's exotic plants and flowering trees are filled with a multitude of migrating and local birds. The low, vine-covered clusters of bungalow-style rooms dispersed about the property are spacious, immaculate, and homey, despite the plain-Jane Danish furniture. There is a good program of activities for children, which is rare in hotels on the Nile. As much as this resort has to offer, even more is coming. At this writing, construction projects nearing completion will double the room count to 650. Another pool, another restaurant, two more bars, and a Thai spa are on their way.
