Philippe Hotel

At a Glance

    Pros

  • good location—halfway between Luxor and Karnak temples—and price
  • superior rooms are better furnished, with nicer bathrooms

    Cons

  • bad location: at time of writing, right across from the smelly rest area for the calèche horses. Rooms vary in size
  • cheaper standard rooms aren't as nice and may have windows that open onto a common shaft

Philippe Hotel Review

Leave the clamor of a shop-filled Downtown street and enter a cool, quiet retreat popular with budget tour groups—and fans of small marble lobbies. Given the negligible price difference between Standard and Superior rooms, Superior rooms are the better choice: larger, more modern, with balconies and a higher standard of furnishings and fittings. The Philippe's major asset, aside from value for money, is a swimming pool on the remarkably spacious sixth-floor roof. The basement restaurant, with its Tiffany-style glass panels, is a lovely bonus.
