After falling out with the British owner of the Pizza Pomodoro chain, this surprisingly good, if basic, Italian restaurant became known as just Pomodoro (a name change to Pronto was being contemplated at press time). Nevertheless, it remains one of Cairo's busiest nightspots: as the night goes on, a live singer takes over the small stage and the place turns into a club. The decor has improved, but it is still better as a restaurant early in the night, before the loud music and crowds disrupt the soothing setting. The penne alla vodka is delicious, as are the two dozen or so pizzas (the pizza bread with herbs makes an interesting change). Pass on the veal dishes.
