The wedge-shape rooms in this circular hotel are reasonably large and, at least in the upper-floor tower section, were all renovated in the late 1990s. Every one has an unobstructed view of the city and the Nile – on a clear day you can see the pyramids from the rooms that face southwest. But the hotel is best seen as a comfortable back-up option when other five-stars are full. The isolated location at the tip of an island in the Nile is a mixed blessing: you're surrounded by greenery but also utterly dependent on the hotel's taxi syndicate to get anywhere. If getting some exercise is important, note that facilities here are inadequate. On the plus side, the staff all come to seem like friends.
