4 Ramses Hilton. This large hotel is geared toward the needs of tour groups and business travelers (largely Japanese), and it's one of the most recognizable high-rises along the Corniche. Rooms are quite large at 387 square feet and better decorated than most comparable rooms in Cairo, in the kind of generic international style Hilton uses everywhere.

A woman friend & I went to the atrium lounge for late night dinner. (1:00 a.m.) After we sat down we realized that we were the only woman there who weren't hookers. We told the waiter that we were guests in the hotel & we would appreciate it if one of the men in the lounge would bother us. Others might not find it as amusing as we did. The room was smallish, but fine. The pollution outside was so bad that you really couldn't leave the balcony
sliding glass door open. They overbooked the hotel and since I was a single, & not a group or part of the International Bridge Tournament, they kicked me out. Made no effort to get me another room in Cairo. Refused to tell people calling me of the name of the new hotel to which I'd moved. Check in & out was very slow. Hotel's public rooms were cramped. The phone system wasn't working properly, etc. etc.
