Hidden away above the Gattegno department store, this small, shoestring-budget pension is adored by students and backpackers. The high-ceiling rooms are large—a few even have balconies—and beautifully appointed with 1930s-style furniture. The toilets and showers are communal for the most part but well kept, and the staff are more friendly and helpful than at many five-star hotels. The sunlit breakfast room is a great place to pick up tips from fellow guests on travel far afield.
