When to Go
Traditionally, high season begins at the end of September, peaks around Christmas, and lasts until April. To avoid crowds, stay away at these times. The heat kicks in as early as March in Upper Egypt—a dry, pollution-free heat that you can get used to. Evenings are always cooler in the desert. However, life slows down even more in Aswan in summer, when it is noticeably hotter here than in Luxor. Ramadan is much quieter still, especially in Upper Egypt.
