Windsor Palace

17 Shar'a al-Shohada, Alexandria, Alexandria, Egypt

Erected on the Alexandria Corniche in 1906, the Windsor Palace retains a period look and feel thanks to its furnishings, tapestries, and oil paintings. The rooms have been modernized but have not lost their character, with high ceilings and tall windows; the front rooms have elegant iron balconies. The hotel serves no alcohol.

PROS

  • excellent location on the Downtown Corniche
  • period atmosphere harks back to the early-20th-century heyday of Alexandria

CONS

  • although grand in scale, the lobby has a soulless quality
  • on-site facilities are limited when compared to the competition
