Jo'burgers love eating out, and there are thousands of restaurants throughout the city to satisfy them. Some notable destinations for food include Melrose Arch, Parkhurst, Sandton, the South (for its Portuguese cuisine), Melville, and Chinatown in the CBD (Central Business District). There's also a new Chinatown -- a strip of restaurants and Asian grocery stores in Cyrildene, just above Bruma Lake. Check out the restaurants recommended on the official Johannesburg Web site www.johannesburg.gov.za. "Smart casual" dress is a good bet, as is making reservations. Most places are open for lunch and dinner, though many establishments are closed on Sunday nights and Monday.
