$$$-$$$$, Eclectic, Cape Town Central
Fodor's Review:
Tall bay windows, a high domed ceiling, and a giant trompe-l'oeil mural -- an inventive evocation of Table Mountain in days of yore -- create a befitting setting for the city's most historic and unashamedly colonial hotel. This is a good place to come for a stylish night out, enhanced by a band. The menu includes such classic dishes as foie gras ballentine with apple-pear chutney and brioche, and lamb's kidney Bercy (with shallots and white wine). You'll also find Asian-inspired creations such as tomato-and-basil risotto in tomato water with fried dim sum, and Vietnamese black-lacquered roasted rack of lamb with fried bok choy. The Oasis, the hotel's Mediterranean poolside buffet restaurant, is outstanding.
