Drawn to this quarter like so many other Israeli literati and artists, writer S. Y. Agnon lived here from 1909 to 1912. At the time, the young Agnon was working as a literary assistant to the more senior writer Simcha Ben Zion, the namesake of the boulevard leading from King George Street to Habimah Square; his first story was published in literary journals produced by Ben Zion. Much of Agnon's writings reflects these very surroundings. Unfortunately, this is closed to the public now, but even the outside of the building is very impressive.
