Spa vacations are becoming more and more popular as travelers look for ways to leave behind the stress of their daily lives. Even if you aren't a regular spa-goer, there's something to be said for a bit of R&R. Our pampered editors have chosen their favorite spa spots around the globe, offering everything from afternoon getaways to week-long retreats.
How should you plan your escape? First, decide how immersive you want your spa experience to be. If you just want a massage or two during your stay, a day spa is probably your best bet. Don’t underestimate them: day spas are often full-service facilities offering a wide range of treatments. If indulging yourself is the main focus of your trip, opt for a destination spa. Some hotels and resorts offer spa packages for guests, so check them out in advance. Destination spas can be pricey, so if you’re planning on a lot of pampering an all-inclusive approach might be less expensive.
Be sure to book your spa treatments in advance – there’s nothing worse than getting to your destination and realizing that the only available appointments are at the crack of dawn. If you are reserving a special service, such as a couple’s massage, it’s even more important to book before you arrive. Some destinations specialize in certain treatments that use techniques developed in the area or ingredients made from local botanicals. They’re often wonderful, but be sure to read the description to make sure you don't sign up for something that's not your cup of tea.
Regardless of where you go, we envy your upcoming Zen.
