Grand Teton National Park

Location: Northwestern Wyoming

Known for: Jagged mountain peaks and diverse wildlife.

Biggest crowds: July and August

Accessibility: Much of the park can be viewed from roadside overlooks.

Why kids like it: They can see wild animals and experience the mountains on foot, on horseback, or from a boat.

What hikers say: Grand Teton has trails for every skill level, from simple strolls around mountain lakes to steep treks.

Yellowstone National Park

Location: Northwestern Wyoming (and parts of Idaho and Montana)

Known for: Extreme and consistent seismic activity, resulting in the world's most extraordinary geysers and hot springs.

Biggest crowds: Mid-July through mid-August

Accessibility: Driving in and around Yellowstone will take you past snow-capped peaks and creek-carved canyons.

Why kids like it: Visiting Old Faithful, the most famous active geyser, is awesome!

What hikers say: Enjoy day hiking through over 2.2 million acres of wilderness on over 1,100 miles of trails.
