Follow Bright Angel Trail down into the Grand Canyon on a mule ride or hike.
The amazing views from the canyon's edge are just a precursor to the excitement of dropping below the rim. Bright Angel trail leads from the South Rim down to the Colorado River, exposing you to the immensity, depth, and changing colors of this geological treasure.Sure-footed mules have been trusted to carry riders here since the early 1900s.
How to Do It
Mule rides must be booked in advance and reservations are taken up to 23 months ahead. One-day and overnight trips both have strict physical requirements. You'll save some energy compared to hiking, but they're still strenuous rides. If you didn't get a jump on your planning, you can travel the well-maintained trail partway on foot too. Hikers should yield to the mule trains and uphill hikers—remember that it takes twice as long to return uphill.

Hike the Bright Angel Down and the Kaibab back up. The mule trip just doesn't appear to be "all that".

hike the north kaibab, it's much less crowded even during the peak season in july.
