    Most of these items are forgeries, sometimes very good ones, but at any rate it's illegal to trade in any sort of antiquities in Egypt. Even good forgeries could cause you problems at customs. As a rule, you cannot take anything more than 100 years old out of the country. This doesn't necessarily apply to items of European origin, but it can apply to carpets, paintings, and some books.
