Eat well in Paris while saving money
There are so many ways to eat well in Paris but still save money: eat picnics, spend your restaurant euros at lunch instead of dinners, have your latté at the counter instead of at a table...You'll save money and probably have a more authentic Parisian experience, too....From the Forums: "I would second the suggestion to 'reste au comptoir' in a café, vs. sitting at a table. You will save a few coins, and it's a great experience." -- petitepois (more)...

Calculate the cost of your summer road trip

Beat the Euro in Italy: Stick to the small cities
"Italy's small cities can be less expensive but still fabulous. We were just in Assisi--all the sites were free, a delicious dinner for two with wine was 22 euros, and our hotel was reasonable at 65 euros per night." -- shared by Fodor's member rosetravels... Beat the Euro in Ireland: Book a night at a university
"I've gone the B&B route on other trips to Ireland, but I'm a big fan of university lodging when it comes to visiting larger cities and needing to keep to a budget. I think a lot of older travelers hear the word "university" and automatically think it's a place full of young backpackers and they will be sharing a bathroom with 20 other tourists. Not true...Queen's University in Belfast and Trinity College in Dublin are great examples of places that offer spacious, clean rooms with private bathrooms. Easy access to public transit, on-site laundry and internet facilities and a full Irish breakfast every day for a fraction of what you'd pay at a hotel make university lodging a terrific option." -- shared by Fodor's member Ceidleh... Japan on a Budget: Use Your Miles
"Use frequent flyer miles to get around Japan. The award levels are low, just 15K or 20K miles. Once, I flew from Tokyo to Sapporo, poked around Hokkaido a bit with JR Pass, and then flew from Sapporo to Hiroshima. The flights were on an FF award, open-jaw ticket. Then I used my JR Pass to get back to Tokyo, after a couple of stops." -- shared by Fodor's member mrwunrfl ... From the Forums: Best Budget Tips for Traveling in Japan...

Arizona on a Budget: Visit Visitors Bureaus Online
"In planning for our next trip to Arizona, I visited Visitors Bureaus online. Tuscon's site features the Tucson Attractions Passport. It's a $15 purchase but provides a long varied list of 2 for 1 offers or discounts in southern Arizona to attractions we actually want to visit so would be worth it for us. The Sedona Tourism Bureau has a $10 Sedona SuperPass." -- shared by Fodor's member jojo46... From the Forums: Budget Tips for Arizona...

Tuscany on a Budget: Rent a Villa
"You don't say when you are traveling. You could pick a fairly central location and rent a cottage/villa for that time. We always do this when staying in one area and it gives us more space and is usually much cheaper than a hotel room for the same time. Look at sites like: www.holiday-rentals.co.uk, www.holidaylettings.co.uk, www.holidaylets.net, etc. You can just search on 'accommodation' and the area you want and usually you can find specific places to the area as well. During high season, many places want a minimum of 1 week, but outside of high season they are usually more flexible. Sometimes the minimums are only 2-3 days even in high season." -- shared by Fodor's member see_the_world7... From the Forums: Budget accommodations in Tuscany ...
