Best Spa Weekend Escapes
By Jessica Festa
Sometimes, a girl just needs to get away for the weekend for some well-deserved relaxation and rejuvenation. At these luxury hotels, ladies can pamper themselves while indulging in the finest spa treatments. Just make sure you don’t enjoy yourself so much that you miss work on Monday!
The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach
The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach offers a Beauty and the Beach package, which includes overnight accommodations, complete with a large, private balcony primed for beachfront views and quiet contemplation. Make it all about me in the Self-Centered Garden oasis, or opt to lounge on the beach and dip into the Atlantic. And if you’re still not feeling serene enough, you’ll also receive a $200 spa credit per night to be used at the Eau Spa by Cornelia. Their extensive menu features treatments like seaside cabana massages, Champagne Shimmer Body Luster, and Slimming Silk Infusion.
Top Spa Experience: For a private, open-air experience under the stars, sign up for the Villa Soaking Bath Ritual: Enjoy the breezy beach air along with a citrus-infused foot bath, back massage, and soak in a blend of soothing teas and essential oils.
Mirbeau Inn & Spa
Skaneateles, New York
The Mirbeau Inn & Spa, located in New York’s Finger Lakes region, feels more like the French countryside, with its well-manicured landscaping, lily pad ponds, colorful gardens, and romantic bridges. Bursting at the seams with some 100 world-class vineyards, many scattered on neat wine-tasting trails, the area also doles out savory farm-to-table dining and R & R pampering. For the latter, look to the 14,000-square-foot Mirbeau Spa, featuring a Two Night Weekend Spa Retreat Package that includes two nights accommodations, full breakfast each morning, and a three-course dinner (rates from $575/night). A 50-minute spa treatment, use of the Spa’s Aqua Terrace, sauna, and steam room, as well as fitness classes, are also included.
Top Spa Experience: Try the Impressionist’s Retreat body wrap for French-inspired indulgence: Begin with a French-clay wrap, followed by a hot, herb-infused body wrap that will leave you in a state of warm bliss.
The Resort at the Mountain
The Resort at the Mountains in Oregon is home to the Spa at Mt. Hood, which features more than 30 therapeutic and wellness-focused treatments. With specialized treatments targeted towards teens, adults, and couples, as well as golfers, skiers, and brides, there truly is something for everyone. Currently, the resort is offering a Make Tracks Now all-inclusive ski-and-spa package, available through April 13, 2012. Guests can enjoy overnight accommodations, plus two each of the following: 50-minute spa treatments, dinner and breakfast dishes, and lift tickets to either Skibowl or Timberline. Rates for this package start at $299/night.
Top Spa Experience: Try the Salmon River Rock Massage, which utilizes the healing properties of hot stones, and an Earth Cocoon Body Wrap that’s sure to detox the mind, body, and soul.
The Langham Hotel
The Langham Hotel Group is home to the Chuan Body + Soul Spa, where guests are taken on an Asian-inspired journey of well-being and relaxation. In Chinese, "chuan" means "flowing water," and many treatments here incorporate water, citing it as the basis of life and vitality. The spa itself showcases a soothing feng shui design scheme, infused by sensual fragrances, trickling water, and calming works of art. While enjoying a cup of tea, guests are assessed to determine which of their personal elements (metal, wood, water, fire, or earth) are most off-balance. Scented incenses, essential oils, and invigorating teas designed to fit each spa-goer are all part of the treatment. Try the Tao of Detox treatment to round it all out, a body-exfoliating session that’s followed up by a moisturizing marine algae wrap, an acupressure massage, and the Chuan Five Elements Bath, where guests can choose to soak in red wine, Champagne, or milk.
Top Spa Experience: If you’re looking to sample the newest addition to the menu, the Chuan Yu Facial was recently added in fall, combining Jade and Gua Sha techniques that are applied to the body’s meridian acupressure points.
Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun
The Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun’s Now Spa by Pevonia introduces guests to the ancient Mayan ritual of Temazcal, a traditional steam bath and ceremony that lasts for one to two hours and is led by a shaman. Like most spa treatments, its aim is to relax and purify the body and soul. However, Temazcal takes the spa experience further still, by offering spa-goers the chance to be "reborn" in the Mayan tradition, allowing for a new and healthier you.
Top Spa Experience: Now Spa is home to some delicious-smelling scrubs, including a rejuvenating Chocolate & Mint Scrub, a nourishing Papaya-Pineapple Scrub, and a brightening Mango-Passion Fruit Scrub.
The Lodge at Vail
The Lodge at Vail offers the lavish RockResorts Spa in a stunning alpine ambience. Don't miss out on the pre-treatment aromatherapy foot soaks, and note that for winter weekend stays, spa-goers can enjoy free 30-minute upgrades on 50-minute services. And for eco-minded guests, rest assured that only the most advanced plant-based technologies and organic ingredients are used in the treatments.
Top Spa Experience: Try the Organic Coffee Body Scrub, which uses coffee and sea kelp to remove impurities, and the Tangerine and Rose Dry Oil to moisturize. An Oceanic Seaweed Soak is also highly recommended, utilizing green tea, sea minerals, and bergamot to calm and rejuvenate the skin.
Las Ventanas al Paraiso, a Rosewood Resort
Los Cabos, Mexico
Las Ventana al Paraiso puts an emphasis on holistic therapies, ancient rituals, and eco-luxury products. At dusk each day, the spa’s Holistic Twilight Ceremony begins and the Solarium is taken over by candles, crystal, sage smoke, and shaman prayers that are all part of the "Limpia", a cleansing ritual dating to ancient Mayan times, said to purge the mind, body, and soul of negative thoughts and health problems. If you’re feeling a little off-center, opt for the Grounding Equilibrium Shirodhara, which incorporates an age-old therapy to help equalize the mind and body by applying a stream of essential oil over the "third eye," a chakra spot situated in the center of your forehead.
Top Spa Experience: To double your spa pleasure, opt for the Four Hand Energy Restoration, featuring two therapists working in tandem to bring relaxation and calm to the body through massage.
Laguna Beach, California
Montage is home to the nature-inspired Spa Montage, where guests can do their body good while sitting in the lap of luxury. Breathe in fresh ocean air and listen to the waves lap up onto the beach, from the peaceful outdoor treatment area. Complementing the therapies themselves, expect enhancements like plush robes, whirlpools infused with thermal mineral salts, and essential oils and fragrant flowers set below the face cradles of the massage tables.
Top Spa Experience: Sample scrubs crafted from local ingredients like thyme, lemon, mustard, and grapefruit for exfoliation, or opt for a full-body wrap created from sea vegetables to refresh skin and combat aging. Finish up with a lush re-mineralizing lotion.
