Wear slip-on shoes when flying
Most airports still require you to remove your shoes at security. Even at airports that don't require shoe removal, you may be delayed and asked to remove your shoes if they're big or high enough to potentially conceal a weapon. Sneakers or slip-on shoes (mules, loafers, etc.) are your best bet. Flip-flops seem even better, but keep in mind that you'll end up walking around barefoot on dirty floors.

I'm a commercial pilot and must say that slip-ons in an emergency egress could be a big problem because they can "slip off" easily. Things get a little rushed as people head for the exits or cracks in the fuselage. Think of the recent American Airlines runway mishap in Jamaica. Best to wear lace-ups whenever flying.
