Don't forget your little one's car seat

Most car rental companies charge extra for safety equipment like car seats--upwards of $10 a day--an arrangement that adds up, especially if you're traveling with more than one child. It costs you nothing to bring your own seat. Seats can be checked as luggage, or, if they meet airline requirements, they can be brought on board for a snug, sage flight.
