Check your scheduling when booking flights

Don't buy a ticket if there's less then an hour between connecting flights; if your second flight is on a different airline or if the airport is particularly busy you'll want to give yourself even more time. Although many schedules are padded, if anything goes wrong you might miss your connection. If you're traveling to an important function, depart a day early.
