Is Fodor's Really Going to Send Me a Free Guide Book?
By Katie Hamlin
Fodor's Editor
If you were quoted in a recently published guide---you'll be hearing from Fodor's this month! In every Fodor's Gold Guide we included recommendations and tips from travelers posting in our Forums and in the review sections of our online destination guides. These delightful tidbits are a part of a feature we call "Word of Mouth".
For the first time, we are actively emailing included members to let them know that they have been quoted. We are offering quoted members a complimentary Fodor's guide of their choice.
A link to this page appears in all of these emails to assure folks that this offer really isn't too good to be true.
Thank you to everyone who plays a role in making the Fodor's community as strong as it is---whether you happen to have been quoted this time around or not. Congrats to everyone that was!
Best,
Katie Hamlin

Thanks for my free guide book, which I received some time ago. Thanks for the Forums, a terrific resource when planning trips! But I have yet to figure out which book I was quoted in

With all due respect, Fodor's...I find "Word of Mouth" to be thoroughly useless. When I look at a Fodor's guide, I expect one approach, when I look at Footprint another, but in either case, I'd like to think I'm reading the fact-checked work of an experienced traveler. I'm sure there's some reason I should respect the tweet-length opinion of some anonymous poster I know nothing about - who may not even have been to the place they're writing about - but I can't think of it.
And if a publisher gave me a book that I could buy on amazon for fifteen bucks, I might be grateful, but I sure wouldn't find it "too good to be true."

I just got a Fodor's guide to Switzerland and was surprised to see that suze and Palenque were quoted in the Word of Mouth sections. I thought Palenque was banned from Fodor's forums.
