Watch out for counterfeit cops

If police officers stop you on the street and ask to check your wallet for counterfeit bills or "drug money" ask them to take you to the police station where you'll be happy to let them do so. Tourists in South America and Mexico have reported being ripped off by bogus cops who palm a couple of bills while searching wallets.
