Airbus Hands Over First A380 to Singapore Airlines

Airbus has officially handed over the first of its new A380 superjumbo airplanes to Singapore Airlines in a ceremony held at Airbus' headquarters in Toulouse, France, on Monday. Singapore Airlines is the first airline to fly the A380 on regular scheduled service.

At the ceremony, Singapore Airlines outlined how it will transform the A380 into a spacious and luxurious aircraft equipped with 471 seats in three classes.

The A380 is scheduled to fly to Singapore on October 16, arriving at Singapore's Changi International Airport the following day. The eco-efficient double-decker enters service between Singapore and Sydney with a special charity flight between both cities on October 25-26. Regular scheduled service commences daily on October 28.

To date, Airbus has 189 orders for the A380 from 16 customers and the manufacturer is on track for subsequent delivery of A380s to Singapore Airlines, Emirates Airlines, and Qantas.
