Big Changes for Vegas' Luxor Hotel-Casino

August 8, 2007

This just in from Las Vegas -- The Luxor, the imposing Egyptian pyramid on the Strip, is shaking things up. A makeover is in the works, a $300 million remodel that will include the addition of a restaurant, lounge, and a nightclub. The facelift is part of an effort to turn the grumpy old sphinx into Vegas' hottest place to party. Indeed, investors DJ AM and Christina Aguilera are opening the nightclub LAX Las Vegas on Labor Day, and Nicky Hilton, Nick Lachey, and actor Wilmer Valderrama are backing Company, a trendy new restaurant coming to the pyramid in October. As if that's not enough, chef Kerry Simon, of Simon Kitchen + Bar in the Hard Rock Hotel, is opening the bordello-themed CatHouse in the fall. No, it's not what you think. It's actually a small-plates spot with something extra -- models who sport the restaurant's own lingerie line. Finally, Cirque du Soleil moves in next summer with a show built around illusionist Criss Angel. All of the above should improve the mood in the tomb.
