Ripley's Believe it Or Not! Returns to Times Square

July 8, 2007

Thirty-five years ago Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum, a reliquary for the odd, hideous, weird, and downright creepy, shut its doors for good in New York's Times Square because the management deemed the neighborhood too sleazy. Times Square has changed a lot in three decades, and though it still has its sleazy elements, Ripley's tolerance has grown apace. This week, Ripley's Believe It or Not! once again opened its doors for business in the heart of Manhattan. Ripley's Believe It or Not! Odditorium has a new look, but it's still home base for the weird and wacky. Our favorite items on display include locks of hair from the heads of George Washington, Elvis Presley and John F. Kennedy, a 3,000-pound meteorite found in China in 1958, a two-headed calf, a section of the Berlin Wall, and most impressively 24 shrunken heads from Ecuador.
