Dead Sea Scrolls Unroll in San Diego

From June 29 to December 31, 2007 the San Diego Natural History Museum will display some of the world's oldest religious artifacts -- the Dead Sea Scrolls. The Israel Antiquities Authority is partnering with the museum to bring a select number of the scrolls to San Diego. Considered to be among the world's greatest archaeological treasures, the scrolls are written on parchment and papyrus in both Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic, and reveal stages of transition between the ancient religion of the Bible and Rabbinic Judaism. The scrolls were discovered between 1947 and 1956 in 11 caves in and around the Wadi Qumran in the West Bank. For more information, consult www.sdnhm.org.
