Cheapest Seat in the Sky
Skybus, the newest budget airline flying the skies, began air service last week from its hub in Columbus, Ohio. The airline, which has a fleet of 150-seat Airbus A319 jets, is presently serving Burbank, Kansas City, and Boston (Portsmouth) from Columbus, and is expected to begin service this week to Ft. Lauderdale, Seattle (Bellingham), and Greensboro (North Carolina). Service to Oakland, California, is scheduled to begin this summer.
One-way tickets are roughly half the rate of other airlines serving the same destinations. To attract customers, the airline is promising that every flight every day will have at least 10 seats up for grabs for $10. Don't expect frills. Blankets will cost you $15, and a bottle of water is $2. Food is available on most flights (light snacks and a breakfast sandwich) but will cost $5, as will any alcoholic beverage.
