Dining in the Dark Finds a Captive Audience in L.A.
The term blind date has taken on new meaning in Los Angeles, where Dining in the Dark has become the hot new thing. Dinner guests are led into a pitch-black room and served three-course meals -- chicken, fish, a vegetarian dish, or beef. Visually challenged waiters serve the meals with surprising precision, and it's up to you to learn how to use cutlery in utter darkness (many resort to using their hands). Although it's not recommended for those who are afraid of the dark, Dining in the Dark is a fascinating experience in letting go of instincts that one takes wholly for granted. Prices vary (chicken or fish are $99 per person; beef is $105), and beer and wine are served. Dining in the Dark happens Saturday nights at the Hyatt West Hollywood, 8401 Sunset Boulevard. Call 800/710-1270. ---Kastle Waserman
